Increasing processor speed beyond its rated limit.
I've encountered an odd problem with my setup. When I enter BIOS and adjust overclock parameters, the changes don't take effect. Even when I just turn off features like "AMD Cool n' Quiet," which usually needs to be disabled for overclocking, the system still fails to boot three times and reverts to default. What's going on here? My PSU is a RM750X 750W Corsair Full Modular (80+ Gold certified with a 10-year warranty), and it handled the previous system and overclocking (AMD FX-8350 running at a steady 4.4Ghz, with higher loads even on stock settings at 4.0Ghz). My current CPU is the AMD Ryzen 2700, and I've managed to get it stable at around 4.4Ghz with good cooling. The Gigabyte Aorus B450 Pro WiFi (rev 1.0) is supposed to be overclockable, but the BIOS update doesn't seem to be the issue—the descriptions don't highlight better overclocking features. My main goal is to overclock because I prefer a performance close to the AMD Ryzen 7 2700x or slightly higher, given my existing setup (Corsair Vengeance PRO RGB 3200Mhz, 32GB RAM). It has sufficient cooling with a single 120mm AIO liquid cooler, and I plan to upgrade to a Cooler Master ML360R 360mm cooler soon. Even with the 120mm radiator, it should support the 2700x's clock speed, which I maintain at idle temps between 28-34°C. With an EVGA RTX 2060 Super SC Ultra Gaming card and four extra case fans (excluding the radiator fan), performance looks solid. Have you tried something unusual with Windows? I noticed it sometimes behaves oddly under clock speeds, even when no apps are running. That could be a factor. Also, the BIOS update might not have addressed this specific concern. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks ahead of time. P.S. I'm really sorry for the lengthy post—I just don't know where else to look for help. Edit: Boot drive is a 240GB M.2 2280 SSD, and the extra storage is a Seagate BarraCuda 2TB 7200RPM with 256MB cache, just in case. Updated December 1, 2019 by CJtheRaichu quick edit on system.**
I took out the silver battery from the MOBO for 24 hours and it resolved the issue...
Unfortunately, trying both of these didn't work. Appreciate the ideas!
