Increase the CPU EDC threshold.
My performance stays at full capacity in games, slowing down my GPU more than needed. There’s no BIOS setting for this issue, only voltage controls I’m not keen on changing. Should I try Ryzen Master? I’ve heard mixed things about its reliability. Before you consider the inevitable 'update your BIOS' remark, you’ll need a bootable/formatted USB drive. How do you know if a drive can handle a BIOS flash or Windows installation? Will this probably solve the problem? Is it worth replacing my motherboard since this one is quite basic? A recent flash drive should work fine, since most BIOS files are small and won’t cause issues. If you haven’t updated your BIOS yet, you likely have an older version—whether it affects EDAC availability is uncertain, but it’s worth a shot. You’ll probably need to turn on PBO for that feature to activate. Make sure your cooling system is solid, as boosting EDAC can be similar to overclocking. Also, RYZEN Master isn’t as dependable as BIOS, so stick with it only if necessary.
It's also important to mention that enhancing your BIOS past 3.10 isn't advised for a first-generation "Summit Ridge" chip, as noted in every BIOS update thereafter. https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B450M-HDV/index.asp#BIOS While this is clear, I don't believe upgrading your BIOS will automatically boost your EDC. @RONOTHAN## could provide more insight on this.
For such an early chip, a full manual overclock across all cores is advisable. Reaching 3.9GHz should be feasible with voltages around 1.35 to 1.4V; if you have a better unit, up to about 4GHz might be realistic. The board isn’t ideal, but it can support the CPU at those speeds.
