I possess a memory kit for Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000MHz C15 RAM. It was purchased before switching to the Ryzen system, but I learned that 3600MHz C16 was ideal for the R5 3600. I accessed the BIOS, disabled XMP and adjusted the frequency and timings. Despite this, games would crash after roughly two minutes even at 3600MHz. I understand some Vengeance kits can reach 3600MHz via XMP, so I thought my setup could handle it through overclocking, but I might be incorrect. What could be wrong with my approach? The motherboard supports it—my model is an MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max.

If your ram is rated at 3000, going to 3200 should be the maximum you can achieve. Even though 3000 CL15 is comparable to 3600 CL18, results aren't always consistent. Wouldn't it be better to try 3200 CL16 first?

Exploring specs beyond what’s listed is risky except for a few cases. For high-end Crucial 3200MHz CL16 or ultra-tight timings, you’re usually limited to Samsung B-die parts. The 3000MHz CL15 fits most generic dies, but none of these perform well together. This is why memory kits are priced this way—quality items command higher prices while cheaper ones sell lower. Sometimes better options show up on budget kits due to limited demand for premium parts and the need for more supply at lower costs. Another factor is inconsistent kit behavior; some perform much better under certain conditions, yet manufacturers only tested at a narrower voltage range, leading to misclassification. Occasionally lucky buyers find quality components at reduced prices, but this shouldn’t be expected. Also, terms like "Corsair Vengeance" or "Gskill Trident Z Royal" usually refer only to the heatspreader and LEDs, not the actual memory chips underneath.

It's automatically adjusted by your motherboard. It offers presets for frequencies, timing, and voltages according to community suggestions. I haven't checked it myself, but the 3600MHz model is set to 1.35V, so staying below that should be safe.

For instance, these two models are similar: the F4-2133C15D and the F4-4400C16D, both with 16GB storage in DDR4. However, the red version appears to be noticeably slower than the black one.
