Increase capacity to 8700k
Hello, I plan to get a 3090 when it comes out. I have a 1440p monitor at 144hz and an 8700k at 5ghz. I’m thinking about the 3950X or the new Intel 10-core processor, since I play a lot of esports like Overwatch and Valorant. Ryzen is definitely capable, but I prefer something more reliable for streaming and YouTube. Waiting a bit longer for a video to render isn’t costing me anything, right? I’m hoping the 16-core model will give Intel an edge in the long run.
Primarily for gaming, keep the 8700k—it remains a solid CPU. Performance doesn't really improve with 12 or 16 cores.
NO , dont get a cpu now , the 8700k is still a high end cpu .... wait till ryzen 4000 series release or the 11th gen intel cpus
You're still enjoying a solid CPU performance, which is great! The reason for wanting to change might be exploring other options or addressing specific needs.
If the 2080ti is 30% stronger than your 2080 and the 3090 is about 50% more than that, you’d likely see roughly double the GPU power. But I’m not sure if your CPU would limit performance.
The 9900K and 10900K are 14nm 8700K chips featuring a face lift with a modest boost in clock speed. All these chips list a 5ghz performance, but the variations between them are minimal. Waiting to see what Ryzen brings isn’t a bad strategy. If you’re craving an upgrade, a 10700K would be a solid option for high-performance gaming.
