In the area between the two boards...
Evening enthusiasts, it's been quite some time since I've shared updates online, but I'm finally back into the game with a fresh build in mind. I'm keen to stick with the ROG brand, having enjoyed their components for years. For my project, I'm weighing between two motherboards: the 9950X and the upcoming 9950X3D. My top choices are the Asus ROG Crosshair X670E Hero and the X870E Hero. The main reason I haven't picked the X670E yet is the recurring hardware problems it's known for—ranging from system crashes on EXPO settings, to Intel Ethernet issues, SSD failures, and random BSODs. The board has been around for a while now, and I'm eager to see if others have faced these challenges or if BIOS updates have fixed them. While the X870E is decent, saving $690 on a reliable Asus board would be a big win for me. Thanks everyone, and enjoy this late Thanksgiving!
These rog boards are often seen as a solid choice but can be pricey. Many alternatives exist at better prices from other brands or even the original manufacturers. Sometimes they’re just marketing with slightly improved specs, though newer tech can bring its own quirks. Some models, like the X870e, have stability problems and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth drops, while others still face similar issues. It’s usually best to steer clear of these common ones for more niche hardware. Consider something else if you want reliability.
