I along with my companion needed some time to repair his brand-new iPhone 15 since its original text styles disappeared in iOS 17. The capability remained on my older phone running iOS 16. It’s unlikely Apple is simply pushing users toward the "TONE STORE." This guide comes from Reddit, originally posted on Apple forums but later removed. I decided to share it here because it might help. Here’s what worked:

- Transfer your desired ringtones and text tones via iTunes.
- Ensure each file has unique metadata—don’t duplicate files even with slight differences.
- If you need a sound that serves both as a ringtone and a text tone, re-encode it to create distinct files (e.g., "Alert Tone - My Sound" vs. "Awesome Ringer").
- Tools like iMazing (https://imazing.com/download) can assist with this process.
- On a Mac, you could use pList Editor Pro for Windows or similar editors to manage the files.
- After editing, copy the new files back to the iPhone, replace the old ones, and power it on.

You should now be able to access your custom tones in Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Text Tone. This should let you personalize alerts and messages effectively. Best of luck! Apple may soon address this issue, so a workaround isn’t necessary anytime soon.

Hi. You're asking whether each file requires a separate entry or if just the XML needs to be updated. For instance, in Windows Explorer you added two files named "01 arrow.m4a" and "jetson doorbell.m4r" into the Tones folder in iTunes. You're checking Ringtones.plist and seeing many keys—what should you add? Also, would you like a video walkthrough of the plist file to see the correct structure?
