I’m going to be honest, whenever a game begins with a stuttering problem, they usually get fixed, at least in my case. Often I could have figured out why it happened, but this time I’m not sure. I have a few possibilities, but it’s hard to predict how things will go. Before the issue started, the game ran smoothly at around 72 frames per second. I set it to 72 because my graphics card couldn’t handle 144, and I wanted consistent performance. Since I use GSync, it wasn’t due to the half of 144. I could play at very high or high settings with full-screen mode, but only a small stutter appeared when using VSync. Mostly it happened while driving or when adjusting camera/character angles. The closest explanation was losing power during play and that might have affected files—though it had happened before without any problems. I also took a short break, and the game worked fine then, but stuttering returned afterward. Yes, I’m above the recommended specs, using RTSS to cap FPS, disabling Game Bar and Game Mode, checking background processes, and confirming CPU/disk usage is normal. Not unlike when I first fixed a stutter by turning off VSync. I don’t think I’ll ever find a clear cause, because once it starts, it’s hard to stop it. What do you think? Any advice would be appreciated. Let me know if you need anything else.

You’ve pushed through 20 hours of play—definitely a tough mental and physical challenge. Are there any original characters available?

I meant roughly 20 hours of playtime. After sending that info, I thought it might cause confusion. Regarding the OC, my PC lacks the cooling or power needed for overclocking, so it won’t work. The 20-hour total gameplay seems related to stuttering rather than just frame drops—probably because I’ve progressed further in the game and unlocked more features, though I’m not certain. I played the game for about a week and it performed well until a couple of days ago. It tends to be more of a microstutter, but occasionally it can turn into a noticeable stutter. It’s not overly bothersome, but I’m very sensitive to small frame drops or stutters, especially when they happen unexpectedly.

It seemed like a webcomic that sparked a lot of discussion around an MMORPG storyline. The comic featured a character named ohforf, who was frustrated because he couldn’t find an unused name. It referenced the phrase “Stutter can be so many things,” which was the only detail mentioned. Hard to pinpoint exactly what was needed. Full technical details are often shared in abundance, but some people skip posts without them. There are several pinned troubleshooting posts that cover essential information.

CPU model is i5-10400F, GPU is 1660, RAM is 12GB (with 8GB+4GB allocation), storage includes 1TB HDD plus a 256GB SSD (GTA 5 runs on the SSD). I didn’t update my specs beforehand; I assumed the issue was unrelated to hardware changes. Recently I installed a Windows update, which might have caused the problem.
