Hello everyone, I recently went through three runs of Civ 6 SP and observed that in later stages, players tend to declare war on one another. Initially I thought it was just my experience, but after reviewing the diplomatic relations of other AI characters, it became clear that everyone harbors animosity toward each other. Alliances appear meaningless because engaging in conflict—whether for any reason or due to an attack—earns you a warmonger penalty, which permanently damages your reputation and removes all friendship or alliance statuses. Is it even possible to play the game while maintaining any friendships?
This game has become a hot topic among Civilization VI players, with some even drawing parallels to historical figures like Gandhi and his ideas on peace. In reality, many find it challenging, and without a resolution, the game may lose appeal.
Sure, the AI for Civ 6 feels quite unreliable at the moment. It often gives random responses without much thought. You have so many options—either focus on defending your land or go all out attacking. I’m hoping a patch will fix this soon, or maybe it’ll be addressed in an expansion. Until then, I’ll stick with Civ 5.
The game's AI tends to react negatively when you're less powerful than them in key areas, aiming to win. Some exceptions exist (like China showing strong dislike for me due to my more wonders and stronger TWO), but generally, a militaristic faction will view you unfavorably if your forces are weaker—such as focusing only on science while neglecting military strength or culture. Concentrating on just one aspect can make your vulnerabilities obvious, leading others to oppose you.
