Hey, I own an old computer I got a while back. Lately I've been working on music production and it's been causing problems with large projects. The software recommendations suggest getting the fastest CPU possible for a single core that fits my budget, even though I also play games occasionally. The current GPU works fine for low-quality gaming, but I'm concerned about performance. A few weeks ago someone told me to hold off until the new AMD CPU arrives, which they said wouldn't be great.

My setup looks like this:
CPU: Intel Core i5-6500
CPU cooler: Bloody Tiger A40
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B150M-HD3
RAM: 16GB DDR4
Power Supply: Antec VP-500
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 10606GB
Budget for upgrades: $680 to $800 (only if it really makes a difference)

You got some stellar suggestions on this thread of yours; Build Advice - Upgrading my PC for music production? Hey, I have an old computer that I bought a few years ago. Recently, I started creating music and it's been causing issues with big projects. I looked at the software requirements and they suggest buying the fastest CPU available for a single core (which has over 8 cores) that my budget allows... forums. and they still hold good to this day since Intel's path is pointless while AMD's Ryzen 9000 series wasn't up to the hype. You've just upped the budget a little. You could've easily updated the thread prior on your increment in your build's budget. For the sake of relevance, you should stylize your thead with info asked of in this thread; *How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice* How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice First off, respect where respect is due - this is an adaptation of the Animal's *How To Ask For New Build Advice* Sticky. I created this because there's a lot of posts nowadays asking for upgrade advice both on here and on the CPU forums, and I feel... forums. inclusive of your location, your preferred site for purchase and your absolute budget, not to mention the apps you will use to tax the build with.

I believed the updated details are substantial enough to start a new thread. Nonetheless, since I see the recommendations from the prior one as still valid, I think I’ll go ahead and purchase the computer. Thanks

Begin by assessing your current setup for optimal single-thread performance. Execute the CPU-Z benchmark on your I5-6500 processor. You should observe a single-thread rating around 383. You can find more details here: https://valid.x86.fr/bench/w7q4vs#google_vignette. Additionally, check the passmark ratings for comparison. For reference, the i5-6500 has a single-thread rating of 2107 according to cpubenchmark.net. If you prefer, you might retain your existing DDR4 RAM, though switching to dual-channel could prompt a change.
