Hey there! I bought a Dell Precision T5810 from the refurb site for $250. The setup includes an Intel Xeon E5-1650 V3 at 3.5GHz, 6 cores with 64GB of 2133MHz memory, a Samsung SATA SSD, and a NVIDIA Quadro K2200 GPU (though it was faulty, I replaced it with a GTX 1660 Ti). I’m looking to upgrade the CPU to the fastest option that fits my system. Do you have a clear idea of what would work best? The E5-1650 V3 uses the FCLGA2011-3 socket. Thanks!

I'm here to help with your question about system purposes. The CPUs suited for gaming aren't always ideal for workstation work, and the opposite can also be true.

The Xeon E5-1650 v3 is an unlocked processor ideal for overclocking, much like a K series chip. It's unclear if the latest Intel XTU versions still permit this, but older models likely did. You can also employ ThrottleStop to achieve higher speeds. Avoid purchasing a new CPU if you can reach similar performance with this one.

I can manage the essential tasks easily. I work with Google Docs, Microsoft Office, and handle Zoom and Google Meet calls. Right now I’m mainly into gaming—playing Mass Effect Andromeda, Civ 5, and Microsoft Flight Sim. I’m not super aware of the latest game trends; I mostly check Steam for cool stuff and follow friends’ suggestions.

In gaming, the core clock will be crucial this year, with the 1650v3 offering some of the fastest clocks available. The existing system seems capable overall, but are there specific aspects where performance drops?

I haven’t missed anything significant; my knowledge of gaming and PC building is limited at the moment. I’m checking to see if any clear issues stand out that might need attention.
