I own an older laptop at home with an i3 3rd gen processor, a 500GB hard drive, and 4GB of RAM. I repeatedly attempted to upgrade Windows 8.1 to 10, but each time during installation it would freeze around 70% and then crash, showing a message that says "Windows 10 couldn't be installed."

is the version of windows 8.1 fully updated? What version of windows 10 are you going to? If you need an older ISO, you can find it online https://gist.github.com/AveYo/c74dc774a8...5613187b15 I use this tool to access older ISO versions, which can come in handy

Do a fresh setup on this device to get the best results. It’ll save you a lot of trouble in the long run.
