The game features a charming cartoonish art style and delivers a solid experience. It’s also relatively affordable given its age. I haven’t tried the sequel yet.
PUBG, Fallout 4, Rocket League, Bioshock Infinite, Ori and the Blind Forest, and Bad Rats are popular choices.
War Thunder. Looks fucking great, plays fucking great, and runs fucking great on shitty hardware. It's free to play, too, so that's good.
I would rely on most traditional titles due to the constraints of early technology. Back then, developers had to use tricks to shrink file sizes and reduce system demands. Today you often find "flash games" occupying space, whereas they should fit into a few megabytes. My example is "V",( Now Old TV), which was 350 MB.
It doesn't seem to showcase optimization in the usual sense. The style used actually simplifies performance rather than complicating it. If Dishonored aimed for photo realism, it would likely face criticism for lacking optimization.
This also relied on the game engine itself. For certain genres, the right engine is essential for effective optimization (like racing or shooters). Just a guess.
