Improved DDR2 memory but causes reading errors
I'm testing an MSI7952 board with Windows 10. Initially using two 2GB DDR2 sticks, then swapping to two 4GB DDR2 modules shows 1GB RAM. After replacing the fake 4GB stick, it displays 2.5GB available. Removing the real 2GB stick reveals 2GB. The system reports 2x 4GB = 1GB in Task Manager, 1x 2GB + 1x 4GB = 2.5GB, and 1x 2GB on its own. This seems inconsistent. Edited January 20, 2023 by NitzGuy I've attached a photo of the motherboard, but I can't see it clearly since I'm away.
The system's age might mean the new RAM isn't compatible. Can you confirm the motherboard's official specifications?
Noticing that 4GB DDR2 DIMMs are scarce and usually sold at a high cost, it seems likely someone swapped in 512MB units for a lower price.
I included an image of the mobo. I went outside to get a better view.
I included an image of the mobo. I left the area to capture a sharper shot later.
The sticker describes the 4GB sticker as having a Samsung M378T5263AZ3-CF7 design.
The documentation for an MSI motherboard appears to suggest compatibility with 8GB RAM, though real-world results can vary. I believe the 4GB DDR2 modules you mentioned are genuine and match available images. Could you share more details about your setup? Are you running a 64-bit version of Windows 10 and what processor model is installed?
