Hey there! I just set up my new PC and noticed some odd behavior with my CPU. It's a 5950X with a base clock of 3.4GHz and boost up to 4.9GHz. Even when the system is idle, only the Task Manager is open, and usage stays around 1-2%. Yet the CPU runs at 4.2GHz to 4.5GHz. Starting Steam for a background download instantly pushes it to 4.9GHz, which also raises my temperatures. It seems unusual or maybe just me. Thanks ahead!

It seems familiar to me. This behavior matches what a stock Ryzen should exhibit.

Certainly! It might not sit at the base clock because it’s inactive or not performing any actions, so there’s no need to display its status there.

This seems confusing because the base clock isn't used while it's not active.

base clock applies when all cores are active; you'll notice the CPU running close to this frequency during heavy tasks like AAA games or benchmarking. For intensive work, it boosts above base to improve performance and provide a smoother experience. The Task Manager isn't dependable for checking clock speed, while Ryzen Master offers more reliable insights.

Hello, I'm experiencing the same problem too. It might be due to the power plan being set to High performance mode. Consider switching it to Balanced or Power saving mode to check if the clock speed returns to normal. Best of luck!
