Imac G4 fan swap issue – not starting after replacement
I was handling the swap of the noisy, outdated fan on my iMac G4. I trimmed the connector and checked the polarity according to the following setup: (Cable color on iMac → matching cable on replacement fan – Arctic F9: black → striped black, red → middle yellow, yellow → outer black, not striped). When linking the old fan this way to a USB adapter it started spinning. After placing the new fan in the iMac, it failed to spin and wasn’t recognized by the OS (10.4.11). How can I verify if my cable polarity is correct? I have a multimeter but don’t know what to test. Or perhaps someone here knows the proper cable arrangement?
