Setting up a PFSense VM on an Archer C7 with OpenWRT for a router is working well. I'm satisfied with the current configuration.

I recently bought an Asus RT-AX82U AX5400 about 2-3 years ago after switching to WiFi 6. It functions properly, but I often need to restart it roughly once a month. I plan to switch to a MikroTik hAP ax2 when I can acquire one, aiming to fully transition to MikroTik at that time.

Ubiquiti Dream Machine SE is generally pleased, though its software and feature support can be inconsistent. It runs on 3 wifi 6 lite APs with solid performance, offering a decent rack mount experience. Feels like a simple tool for the right user. POE 48 pro switch supports 8 ports and aggregation.

Consider using a UniFi access point or other enterprise access points for your home setup later on.

PFSense router (VM) functions as a firewall or edge device, while Meraki MR57s operate as access points.

I currently only have Wi-Fi enabled. My setup was a NFR Fortigate 60F that I used for studying last year—it’s my main device. I might upgrade it later once I have access to faster internet (over 1Gbps) and more bandwidth on the main computer. The one-year restriction for reselling it is now lifted.

I run a Synology RT2600AC and it performs well with great features and ongoing updates. If I were living alone, I’d likely choose a more hands-on setup or specialized Ubiquity equipment.

Router stays Mikrotik always. Excited about transitioning to pfSense for personal home use later. Wireless Access Point typically comes from Ubiquiti products like U6 Lite. Switching to Xiaomi Mi Router AX6000 offers significantly faster Wi-Fi 6 and better 2.5G upstream Ethernet at a fraction of the cost of U6 Lite for home use. Still relying on Ubiquiti for production.

The internet speed is just 300Mbps, which means I don’t need a more powerful router. I don’t have any local servers or a NAS either.
