I'm tired of PC performance being focused solely on graphics. I want a *more intelligent* game.

What bothers me most is how people constantly boast about AI for years, only to have game AI seem clueless or suspiciously perfect. It's even worse when I imagine bots from UT99 and the original Half-Life characters from over 20 years ago.
I understand. There have been significant improvements in graphic quality that could be achieved if developers choose to include them in their games. The issue remains: games aiming for photorealism often fall short compared to intentionally stylized or cartoonish titles. In the near future, cutting-edge visuals may quickly become outdated, whereas cartoony games retain their charm. There are many other aspects games can develop, such as enhanced AI or more dynamic events to make the world feel more vibrant. That was essentially the key reason Cyberpunk generated such excitement. It delivered on its promises, but ultimately the experience felt empty and disconnected once you moved past its scripted moments.
Ah - I believe the OP is getting at a (Smarter) more random-option-choice capable AI. This is what I'm getting from the OP's posting. That means it doesn't always take the same path of travel through a map or a given area for example nor would always make the same choice of action to take vs you. It sometimes would even mean if the AI character had more than one weapon it would sometimes choose a different weapon instead of always going for the gun or sword everytime just because logically it's the best choice in a particular situation. It also means even if it does take a different path or action, it's not limited to just "The Two" paths or choices. It actually has to figure out different things as it goes sometimes, making you have to think on your toes too. Does it attack from a distance with a sniper rifle, try to ambush you with a knife or gun attack or wait until you're kinda close and breakout the grenades? Maybe a combo - Use a smoke grenade to blind you and go for a cheap kill or ambush.... Or use that to move and take a different position to work from there? Appear so you see it and give chase to lure you into the firing arc of a machine gun nest just waiting for you? How about instead having AI characters not always in the same formation starting in the same spot/two spots or equipped the same everytime? Randomization like this adds value to a game and replay value as a bonus too. Sometimes a game kinda fails because the AI is stupid, broken, or predictable. Doesn't mean it isn't working, just isn't as fun due to things like a predictable behavior or pattern based on what happens. For example, in a WWII game with aircraft I used to play all the time, I could beat AI enemies by "Flying" them into the ground. That means in a dogfight, if one got on my tail I'd have them chase me into a steep dive, then I'd pull up at the last moment before smacking the ground - I could do it no prob but they'd plant themselves like wasted daisies everytime. Once I figured that out it kinda took some of the fun away from the game but I still played it alot because much of the rest was still good, just wasn't "As good" for me after I learned that trick about it. Don't know how close that is but I do know more of that would make games better than they are now.
