I received a MacBook 4,1 without a hard drive, but I have a separate one. Even though I’m familiar with everything, I’m unsure how to install an operating system. When connected to my Windows 10 PC, the hard drive appears as MBR, and I have an OSx Leopard installation disk ready. Ideally, I’d like Snow Leopard instead. Can you help?

Do you have a laptop nearby? That would simplify things.

Is there an issue? Just insert the hard drive, place the disk inside, and try to boot.

I don’t have a functioning setup, but I own a MacBook Pro 4 with a 2.4GHz quad-core processor.

IKR, but devices from this time don’t appear to boot into anything since EFI is installed on the hard drive. Nothing seems to work.

Consider transferring the ISO from the CD to the hard drive for processing.

Uncertain about this. My main thought is to install the operating system onto the hard drive using an existing OS and then insert the drive into the Mac. It’s a bit unclear for someone new to Macs.

Get another PC, it doesn’t need to be running OS X. Take the hard drive and attempt to install it there. Once installed, insert it into the new machine. It should function properly, though adjustments might be necessary for the disk settings.

Check the section on creating a USB installer for Mac OS X. It explains how to set up a clean installation.

To achieve this, ensure you're using a Mac. The machine won't boot from USB because the EFI is stored on the hard drive, which isn't present.
