The information is ready. I've compiled the CPU list and their corresponding BIOS versions from the provided link.

You're likely to fit the Ryzen 5 3600X on this motherboard. The 5500 and 3600X perform almost identically, so the choice depends mostly on personal preference. If you find the 5500 better suited for your build, consider it.

It's accurate, but I'm unsure if the 5500 is compatible with the Gigabyte B450M DS3H V2. You might want to consider replacing it instead.

It’s probably necessary to install a BIOS update regardless of the outcome. Unless you’ve already upgraded your motherboard’s BIOS to match the requirements for the 5500, the overall experience should remain similar. Begin with the 3600X on your brother’s new board and observe the results.

Requires BIOS version F62 or higher. F62 launched in February. If your BIOS hasn’t been updated since then, do it too. For reference, I’d likely upgrade the BIOS on both systems. This patch addresses a security flaw on the B450M and includes stability improvements. After updating, revisit BIOS settings and turn off TPM. Upgrading to 62 or later turns TPM on automatically, though some AMD builds may still show minor stuttering. The A320M also activates TPM by default. I’m unsure how effectively the stuttering is resolved on MSI boards, but it’s hidden in the BIOS under an off switch. If both machines remain on W10, you can skip TPM altogether.

Thanks everyone. I was quite nervous, but watching my brothers excitement shift into worry and stress wasn’t the best mood ever. You really made a difference and helped me navigate a tough situation.

It was a straightforward process. For assistance with setup and understanding, this guide is excellent. It covers a gigabyte board, and the concepts apply to MSI boards as well. Remember to include XMP.
