Hello, I’m finding it increasingly difficult to pinpoint the problem with my network. Since 2022 I’ve been using a 900 down and 450 up plan (OFNL in the UK). Over the past five days, speeds have dropped between 200 and 600 Mbps. My setup includes an ONT, an AX88UPRO modem, internal CAT5E cabling, an ASUS AC86U router, a PC, and another PC connected via internal CAT5E that works around the AC86U. The routers are linked through an AI mesh network. The speed issue affects both devices and was confirmed by the ISP, who initially blamed my equipment since I wasn’t using their router. I tried using their router myself, but it still showed only 600 Mbps at best—especially when connected via WiFi off. Even when I swapped the ONT to an ISP router, the connection remained poor. The AC86U as a router didn’t help either. I’ve also replaced the ONT-to-WAN cable just in case. Everyone on my network is experiencing the same problem. I’ve only changed one internal device to test their setup, but nothing has resolved the issue. I’m frustrated because I’m not getting the service I paid for, and it feels like something is seriously wrong. For context, my previous connection was consistently around 900 Mbps across all wired devices for nearly three years until this happened. My knowledge isn’t strong, and I’m not an engineer—do you have any suggestions I might try? I assure you, I’m not losing my mind.

This speed is just a setup detail, it should function exactly as your ISP promised. These are only items you need to talk about with your ISP. Your internal LAN settings, Wi-Fi configuration, and the size of your home (in square meters) are things you can share with forum members for discussion.

The network becomes disconnected unless that single PC is directly linked to the ISP router.

Approximately 600 units down, with a maximum of around 700, though it isn't stable.

Hello, I’m trying to understand what you’re asking. The internal wires are just a short distance—only a few meters. We’ve talked with my ISP and an engineer, but they can’t find any issue on their end.

Consider testing on a different machine. Odd network settings might affect performance, and if they match another device, the problem likely lies with the ISP.

I used three different machines—ISP sent a technician, connected their laptop to the ONT, and everything worked perfectly: 1000% no problems Big Grin

I've tested with three different computers now. The ISP sent someone over, connected to the ONT, but it was at 1000 down—perfect. They replaced the ONT and left it there. I also ran a speed test as a solo machine on my network, which came back at 600 downloads.

The router doesn’t usually support advanced security options or traffic filtering, especially when operating at gigabit rates.
