You're starting with OS installation and wondering if AVG antivirus is sufficient without breaking the bank. It can work well for basic protection, but consider your needs as you go along.

I handle MSE myself and occasionally use malwarebytes for scanning. Both tools are available at no cost.

There are numerous excellent free antivirus options available, such as Avast and Malwarebytes. I previously used AVG and experienced no issues. Consider testing the ones I recommended beforehand; they might perform equally well.

Are you the only one without an antivirus? Haha, but yes, Avast works well!

I rely on AVG free, which has performed flawlessly over the years. You also have an antivirus installed. The Windows firewall functions as an antivirus, though it's quite ineffective.

Sure, except for that, you could just set up Avast instead.

It works well for most users. I suggest running a malware scan with Malwarebytes every six months.

AVG works well. I wouldn’t suggest using MSE on Windows 7 (or XP, that’s not okay), but Avast is excellent and MBAM helps you check your PC regularly to catch anything missed.
