I've been using this setup for two years now. It performed well until recently. The monitor would freeze and restart during intense gaming sessions. No minidump was created, but it displayed a kernel error (ID 41, task 63). I ran stress tests with OCCT across RAM, CPU, GPU, and a full system run for an hour. The machine stayed stable throughout, with the CPU never exceeding 65°C during Prime 95 and the GPU staying under 80°C. I disabled overclocking, set RAM to standard speeds, and updated drivers. I also performed a Windows update, an in-place OS upgrade, and ran chkdsk/SFC. Everything seems fine now.

After reviewing the situation, I suspect the power supply unit might be the issue. I ordered a replacement and expect it to arrive Friday. I kept tweaking things—removing and reinserting RAM, updating BIOS, cleaning the drive. Despite these efforts, the problem persists.

I encountered a "USB device not recognized" error when booting Windows, which appeared during USB passthrough for a monitor. Plugging it in and out seemed to fix the issue temporarily, but the problem reappeared. I tried using MSI Afterburner to scan the system, but it crashed during the process.

My confidence is waning. I’m trying to figure out what’s wrong and what steps might help, but I’m not sure where to start next. Have others faced similar issues?

Have you refreshed Windows recently? Apply the newest Ryzen, GPU, and audio drivers. Lower your BIOS settings further, the one you rely on most. Upgrading the BIOS isn’t necessary if your system runs smoothly.

PSU should be my initial test if overheating isn't the issue on the CPU, GPU, VRM's etc. Verify your GPU has two PCI-E cables delivering power instead of just one with a splitter. Consider a fresh Windows installation since I tend to prefer solving problems through software checks. Use the Event Viewer, filtering for warnings, critical issues, and errors to spot additional codes. Disconnect any USB devices that aren't necessary and keep only your keyboard and mouse connected during testing. You mentioned trying Memtest, but if you have a 2x8 RAM configuration, try adjusting it to one stick and see if it crashes—switch it out if it does. If the PSU doesn't resolve the problem, the Windows reinstall didn't help, and memory or other components might be faulty, then a motherboard inspection would be necessary.

I’m unsure if it’s worth creating a new thread or simply resurrecting this old one. I decided to begin here. The PSU I bought—a new ASUS ROG 750w 80+ Gold—was recommended in my previous posts. After swapping it out, my system became much more stable and everything seemed normal. But last week it started crashing again in the same way. After a year of smooth operation, we’re back to where we started. I’m confused about what’s causing this. Could my GPU be the issue? Someone mentioned that EVGA 3080 cards tend to cause problems. If I replace my PSU, will I just face the same situation next year because my GPU is damaging it?
