In most games I play, I consistently achieve over 60 frames per second at high settings and 144Hz, rarely surpassing 100 FPS. I’m wondering if I should stick to 60Hz or even go higher at 120Hz for better performance. Understanding the relationship between Hz and FPS would really help. Please share your specifications and control panel settings if you can—any tips on optimizing or confirming my current configuration would be greatly appreciated. (You’re new, so don’t worry!) Thanks a lot. P.S. I also experience some screen distortion during gameplay; any suggestions to reduce it?

Hz represents the monitor refresh rate, essentially determining the frames per second it can show. When rendering at 100fps on a 60Hz screen you’ll perceive around 60FPS, and vice versa if you render at 60fps on a 144Hz display, showing only 60 out of the potential 144.

Yes, maintaining a 144Hz refresh rate can enhance your gaming or visual experience.

You can reduce the frame rate to 120hz when it doesn’t exceed 120 fps, though this won’t significantly impact performance. It will just show what the GPU is rendering.

I'm not familiar with Nvidia yet, so I'm not fully sure about the settings. However, I'd prefer to let most configurations be managed by the app itself.

I maintain full control over everything except SLI and Gsync—no need to stress about those. Adjust the performance management mode to PERFORMANCE.

Adjust to 60Hz and the GPU creates extra frames, causing more tearing. If you have funds, upgrade your display to a Gsync Modell and issues like tearing will disappear. The panel settings can remain application-managed. Avoid forcing Vsync via the control panel.

I recently purchased this monitor and I really enjoy it overall. The screen tear is a minor annoyance that appears only when I look at it, so it doesn’t bother me much. You might want to skip forcing Vsync via the control panel since it’s already set to adaptive. Consider turning it off completely for games and re-enabling it just for regular use.
