Currently, I have an i7 9700 running on an MSI Z390 gaming board with a 1060 6GB RAM. This time, the CPU light is illuminated during debugging. My main concerns are: I’ve rebuilt and re-seated everything including the CPU, tried booting with just one RAM stick, attempted jATM jump for 10-15 seconds while unplugged, removed the CMOS battery for an hour, but nothing changed. I also tried using jumper caps, though that didn’t help. I’m unsure what else to do. I have a spare PC, but it’s AMD and I can’t test parts there. Don't need to take out the CMOS battery for an hour; just disconnect the computer from the wall and switch the PSU off. Take out the battery, press the power button a few times or hold it for half a minute. This clears any leftover power and resets the CMOS. Reinsert the battery and power on again. The CMOS should reset quickly. To verify if the issue is with the power supply, check that your AMD system's PSU matches the Intel specs. For troubleshooting, try booting with just one RAM stick and swapping it around to see if performance improves. If that doesn't help, test a different RAM module—AM4 or newer boards usually support DDR4, which should work with Intel systems. If none of these steps resolve the problem, consider testing the CPU and motherboard. When the system isn't in use, is it stored somewhere or simply not powered?
Hello, thank you for your message. I previously attempted to turn off the PSU, removed the battery, and pressed the power button, but it didn’t help. Shorting the jbat to reset CMOS also failed. I ran a RAM check without success. Regarding the PSU, I haven’t tested another unit since I wasn’t expecting it to make a difference, though I’ll try soon. When the PC is stored, it’s just plugged in and off—this was the case before moving into a storage room, yet I managed to fix the same problem by rebuilding the system and swapping the PCIe slot for the GPU. I didn’t notice the CPU debug light during that process. After fixing it once, the PC worked again a few weeks ago, so I assumed it was stuck in standby after being off for weeks. Nothing I’ve tried has resolved the issue.
For the other system, it’s a Ryzen 3 with DDR3 RAM, which I suspect isn’t compatible with my MSI board. I’m really puzzled—no reset seems to work, and replacing the CPU or motherboard after only three years feels disappointing. I’m hoping it’s just a BIOS issue, but all suggestions have failed so far.
