You’ll need to reinstall your files and games after upgrading your motherboard. Windows 8 won’t automatically transfer everything, so you may have to restore them from backups or reinstall them.

Ensure your data is saved to a USB or another HDD before installing Windows 8. Once installed, reinstall all your applications and restore your files from the backup.

Choose a full reinstall as suggested. This involves adjusting the system settings. If you're using an SSD for the operating system and another drive for general use, you can save your data to the HDD safely. This process won't interfere with it. For a repair-focused installation where only drivers and minor issues are fixed, your files stay unchanged. However, this approach doesn't always resolve all problems.
