I'm having trouble installing the driver for the Brother printer.
Hi,
I'm really unsure how to proceed, and this might be my final attempt for assistance.
A few days ago I received a Brother PocketJet PJ-823 Thermal Printer, but it wouldn't function properly. Every time I attempt to install the driver, the software insists on plugging the printer in via USB, yet it blocks me from finishing the setup.

I've spent two hours talking to Brother support trying to resolve this, and they eventually sent me a replacement unit, but the same problem persists.
I've tried everything possible.
I've disabled the firewall and Windows security settings, used two different cables and all six USB ports, and even switched to another device.
Make sure the printer spooler is active, turned off Windows protected print mode, and I just completed a fresh Windows 11 installation.
After connecting the device, it powers on for three seconds before shutting down.
It doesn't appear in Device Manager at all—not even as an unknown device.
I've also used the "Software/Document-Installer" and the standalone driver.
Just ordered the AC cable… maybe that will help?
Could someone here suggest a solution? I really need this printer to work.
Thanks.
Check if the printer driver was obtained from Brother's site and confirm it was installed and set up properly.

Should the configuration report (Step 4) display correctly?
Yes, the printer is correct, and it was downloaded solely from the official site. I'm unable to access the printing feature. As mentioned before, I connect the printer to the PC when the prompt appears in the image above; it powers on and shuts off after roughly three seconds. The installer doesn't detect that the printer is connected, so I can't install its driver. Without the driver, I also can't use any of the official Brother printing applications.
Can we attempt to link the printer to a different functional computer or laptop?
Are the USB cables labeled A-B?
Is there an adapter included?
Where did you obtain the information about the USB cable(s)?
Do you know of another compatible USB A-B from another source?

You can search online for relevant explanations and guides.
Are you trying to link the printer before applying the driver? Nearly all USB printers need drivers installed first, keeping them disconnected until the installation process asks you to connect them (and only then). Ignoring this step completely will prevent you from succeeding.
Consider restarting in the Recovery, Troubleshooting mode and choosing the Disable Driver Signature Enforcement setting.
Windows 11 will download drivers for generic printing. No app required. In Settings, include a printer, then Printers and scanners. Check your Device Manager to confirm the printer appears in Print Queues; add it if missing.
I don't have any other PCs to test on. The cable is USB type A to type C. A goes into the PC, C into the printer. No adapters needed. The cable came with the printer. This is the second printer I received for replacement, so two different cables were sent with two different devices. However, I also tried another cable I had nearby. All three cables and two devices gave the same outcome.
As I've explained, I only connect the USB cable to my PC after the installation prompt shows up. The printer starts up for roughly three seconds before shutting off again. The installer doesn't detect the printer's input, and I can't click "finish" as shown in the picture, which prevents completing the driver setup needed to make the printer functional.
I connect the printer
It starts working for a moment
Then it shuts off again
In settings, I select Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners
I choose "add device"
It begins loading/searching
My printer isn't showing up in the list
I tap "Add a new device manually"
Then see the message "My printer is a little older. Help me find it." & "Next"
It continues searching
But no printers are found
