I'm having trouble getting my CPU to overclock after making some changes. It's an Intel i7 9700k.
Hello everyone. I recently made some upgrades to my computer, planning to change the case anyway. Before I began taking it apart, my CPU was running at around 4.8 ghz. Once I finished rebuilding, it stopped being overclocked and has remained at the default 3.6 ghz ever since. I checked the BIOS settings before and after, but nothing had changed. Since a BIOS update was due, I thought maybe that was the reason. So I upgraded from version 1401 to 1602, reset the BIOS settings, and still can’t get it to overclock. After restoring the BIOS back to defaults, I tried reapplying the manual settings again, but nothing worked. Any advice on what to try next?
I think the PSU might not be able to manage the high load from the overclock and the 3080's big power consumption. I usually prefer platinum PSUs since they suit overclocking and leave extra capacity.
Ah, well now that you mention it, you might be right. I wasn't sure about the PSU, but I thought it was okay. It turns out the recommended wattage for this 3080 went up to 850W, so I'm only managing just a little more.
