I've been searching online for a new PC but there are too many options. Just when I think I found one, it doesn't meet my requirements. I'm mainly looking for something to use for research, listening to music, watching movies, etc.
I need an affordable desktop with no gaming focus.
I want a fast system with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage (I already have an external drive).
It should have plenty of USB ports, an external DVD or CD/DVD drive, and HDMI for my two monitors.
Could you suggest a suitable PC?
Thanks,
Scott

Budget?
Why an external DVD?
Backup data stored not just in one location.
Pre-built system or would you prefer to build it yourself?

I would simply choose a Dell system, as almost any option will meet your requirements based on your budget. If you manage to add memory and a storage drive, Windows 11 is available for a small price on Amazon.

Typically, most setups lack an optical drive. It's simpler to use an external USB version.

Generally, any new PC will suffice, as described there. The external DVD drive will have to be bought separately.

I completely understand this. Dell offers quick and cost-effective desktops. You can tailor them on their site to match your requirements while staying within your budget.

budget?
Under $700 is the limit.
Why an external DVD?
Or not! I think I don't really need one. I still use CDs, but I have an ASUS Powerful Blu-ray Drive with 16x Writing Speed for backup data in one place.
OK
Do you prefer a ready-made system or would you like to build it yourself?
NO, I'm fine.

From a sense of humor I prompted chat gpt, asking about building a PC without a dedicated GPU. The response outlines a practical setup for $700, featuring 16GB RAM and integrated graphics, along with tips on budgeting, components, and future upgrades.

I'm unsure if you're looking for a pre-built version or if you can put it together yourself. Even if you pay someone to assemble it, you'll still be ahead of the curve. It's also unclear whether you need a monitor or if you already have one. The operating system can be bought for about 10-15 dollars.
