I recently upgraded my desktop to Windows 11 and this has made an existing problem worse. Sometimes, when the system restarts—especially during updates—it freezes just before power-on and remains locked until I manually shut it down. The same happens if I try to turn it back on shortly after a shutdown. After a forced shutdown, the machine restarts normally in safe mode, resets the BIOS, or boots after a quick reset. It also works if I leave it on overnight after a shutdown. The only clue is that the hardware might be aging and could need replacement, but it seems to function without issues. P.S. I also tried a cold boot and everything is running smoothly now. Build: ASUS Crosshair VI Hero Rev 1.xx BIOS 8601 Ryzen 7 5800X3D Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200MHz 4x8GB ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Corsair MP 600 2TB (boot) EVGA SuperNova 1000 G3.

Did you move from version 10 to 11? Yes, those updates often cause problems and this isn’t unusual. It happened at a HP Elite Desk 800 with an i5 9400, where everyone experienced big display problems after the upgrade, plus other unexpected issues. Reinstalling fixed everything.

It could be a strange problem with the motherboard, maybe related to capacitors. Here’s what you can try: switch off the system, then shut down the PSU using the control panel. Keep pressing the power button for about 10 seconds to discharge the capacitors. Restore the PSU and attempt to boot up again. If the issue is due to capacitors stopping the “warm” startup, it should resolve the problem. This isn’t a lasting solution, but it might help you determine if the motherboard is the cause.

This problem occurred before I upgraded from Windows 10. I suspected it might relate to Windows hybrid hibernation or sleep features, possibly connected to the videos about Windows Modern Standby—though it could also stem from a different desktop environment.

Consider adding the 8701 BIOS. 8601 is a more reliable recent update for the Ryzen 5000 series. I’ll also set the RAM to base speed 2133, as older boards often struggle with full performance in 4x configurations despite the CPU having the memory controller.

If it boots reliably, it's likely the problem lies with the motherboard.

I’ll try this over the weekend since I’m not sure if the problem began after upgrading to my 5800X3D or if it was present when I used the 1700. It looks like the system boots normally at 3200MHz in other situations, aside from needing a full restart after being on.

I also recalled upgrading and added a thicker cooler with two fans. Since there was no header, I’m using both fans through a splitter, which could be causing CPU errors during startup.
