I've been using various i7 processors over the past year, watching lots of videos about building PCs and reading forum discussions regularly. With turbo boost, the cores adjust quickly to the demands they face. On benchmark tests, I've consistently achieved solid performance, running smoothly with good air cooling. If I were to push overclocking, it seems minor improvements might appear in scores or FPS, but those aren't real-world gains. Most people still get solid results with an i9 9900k or similar at around 62°C and maintaining 5GHz on multiple cores when needed. Why would anyone want every core running at full voltage, regardless of what the system is actually doing? It doesn't seem like a necessity for good performance. This is why overclocking remains a big topic in PC building and gaming communities—it really matters to many of us.

Certainly, there are both positives and negatives. It's affordable until you reach certain limits. For major overclocking, you'll likely need upgraded cooling, better power sources, and more. Note that for many in this group, these expenses aren't a concern since they typically purchase high-performance gear just because they can.

Starting overclocking only when the machine reaches the end of its life is a mistake. Capture the advantages from the start. Still, if I didn’t have that 30% boost on my 6-year-old 5960X, it would probably have been swapped a year or two ago. It’s provided me with those extra gains over the years.

While that might not look like much in percentage terms, it definitely improves performance during demanding tasks. For instance, a six-hour encoding job cuts to roughly five hours with the overclock, which is a noticeable gain.

They produce the CPUs and we can use them as intended without worrying about stability. Not really. To overclock I need an unlocked CPU, which costs more than a locked one. Plus, I require a motherboard that supports overclocking, which is also pricier than one without this feature. So I don’t understand why people spend extra just to run a CPU less stable and hotter, when they could simply buy a better CPU. That’s why I chose an i7 9700 for my build instead of an i5 K with a more expensive board. (You can view my setup below)
