Family reached out to CNN, thinking it was just news... A friend brought over a laptop to swap the CPU and GPU, but nothing had been done before. They started by opening the case and then began unplugging the fans. They wondered what step 2 was supposed to be. They decided to unplug the battery next. It seems they’re in a tough spot—living on thin air for months while preparing to replace it. Hopefully, others won’t laugh at their mistakes and will learn from this experience! Good luck.

Why? You're not a pro technician, but your friend understood that. He decided to take the chance and gave you his laptop, clearly without turning it off. That's not your fault—it's his issue. Given the situation, it might have been because your "friend" was trying to get you into trouble so he could get a new laptop for free.

It's something I rarely find amusing, especially when it comes to accepting responsibility.

I haven't noticed anything suggesting the laptop is malfunctioning. You can safely disconnect cords while it runs without causing damage. It won't immediately stop working. I recommend sending it to a professional repair service.

I understand your point and it brings back memories of the times I dropped my iPhone while attempting repairs.

I've made this error several times before. Often all I needed was a day or two and the laptops came back to life. With my own Lenovo Legion, opening the RAM shield caused it to fall out (probably due to an improper factory installation) and briefly crash the system before I managed to fix it with a plastic tool. It's still working fine after three years.

You’re sure about this? I’ve spent a lot of time with laptops that aren’t powered off. If they’re truly dead, I’m happy to assist swapping the battery, but I’d never push someone into trouble for something so easy. Particularly if you were helping for free.
