I'm testing a 3700x on Gigabyte X570 Aorus Ultra with an F4-3600C16D chipset. I bought the GSKILL TridentZ Neo kit for 16GB RAM and installed it in the recommended slots. After enabling XMP and rebooting, everything works fine—system runs smoothly, memory timings match expectations, and performance is solid. Games and benchmarks run without crashes. Using the cooler keeps temperatures around 1800 under load (Cinebench R20). My problem is that when I power on, the system defaults to 2133 MHz or 1066 MHz in the BIOS. Even after checking, the XMP setting still shows 2133 MHz but the memory frequency is 2133. To bring it back up to 1800, I need to click "save and exit" in the BIOS. It seems this action restores the correct speed. The GSKILL QVL list doesn’t show this RAM, though their site claims it’s certified for the X570. I’ve also tried enabling PBO, which improved performance but caused it to turn off after each power cycle—this might be normal. I’m unsure about the right settings to keep during reboots. Should I reach out to GSKILL support?
Load CPU-Z, navigate to the Memory section, and you'll find your actual timing details there. If a UEFI issue exists, it will indicate discrepancies compared to CPU-Z; otherwise, it suggests a BIOS problem rather than a memory setting error. Remember, CPU-Z accounts for DDR speeds—so 1800MHz becomes 3600MHz, 1200MHz becomes 2400MHz, etc.
CPU-Z confirmed the frequency in your screenshot was 1066mhz. The benchmarks indicated a notable performance drop, suggesting XMP settings might be ignored during startup. Curiously, the following day the system failed to power on. Pressing the power button made the CPU LED on MB flash twice. No fans spun at all. I swapped out another PSU and removed the CMOS battery (and power source). Now I plan to return the board for testing with a new one.
Same problem again! I received a 32 GB kit but it didn’t work with my Ryzen 7 3700X and 5700X. I returned it and got a replacement, but the issue persists.
Adjust DRAM voltage manually to 1.35V, as this resolves the problem where XMP becomes stuck at default settings...
Yep and, Other know issues, picky Ryzen memory controller with oddball timings, really poor performing if capable of rated speeds memory with the 32gb of memory just a tad extra strain on the IMC.... Really seems to be a major issue, I've seen several threads here containing it. A combination of all the same issue on a different PC. It's tough, A lot of peeps KNOW 3600mhz memory is the deal, but haven't done a great deal of research perhaps. Even at 1.35v, it's probably only going to be stable at a lower frequency. Giving advice is tough though. So many different motherboards, most all the same SK Hynix chiplets of poor binning. Absolutely no guarantee of stable OCs at any decent frequency with 18-22-22 timing specs. That's how bad the chips are on these sticks quiznorf has.
Check the thread list for more details. You mentioned the problem with early bios, which seems likely. I checked the original post and even ran an RMA on the memory. It’s running in safe mode since the RAM is at the bottom of the barrel. For good performance, aim for 16-16-16 timings. Ballers claims to support up to 3800mhz if needed.
