You might be able to transfer the Windows software from your laptop to another PC without buying a new one. Look into free or low-cost alternatives, or consider upgrading gradually instead of spending a lot at once. Let me know if you want suggestions!

We're discussing various licensing options. Some subscriptions let you carry your license across devices, while others are limited to specific systems.

It functioned for me, I believe. I moved all my laptop information to another machine and now both devices match perfectly except for the SSD contents... I transferred everything, including the operating system. Don’t rely solely on my account—I might have just been lucky since Windows is usually tied to specific hardware, particularly in laptops.

That’s correct. Your Windows license is officially tied to the device it comes with. Retail licenses purchased separately can connect to your Microsoft account, allowing them to transfer when you move to a different machine. Without that linkage, someone could potentially steal or misuse the license by cloning and returning the drive.

I understand your concern, but I don’t have access to current pricing or discount information. You might want to check online marketplaces, local stores, or consider buying secondhand options to save money.

Free isn't an option—it's piracy and theft. There are options at risk. Still, if you try it, pay the price. Building an operating system isn't simple or fast. I wouldn't rely on grey markets either, since they might be lost or from illegal sources. The safest choice is to purchase a boxed OEM version. A home version costs about $70 USD.
