Identifying the perpetrator
Hey everyone, here’s a quick rundown of the situation. I recently moved into a new apartment and shipped my PC and monitor across the holidays. After a few days, I noticed the breaker tripped while playing Guilty Gear with a friend. At first, it seemed strange since the game wasn’t using much power—CPU at around 10%, GPU at 20-25%. The breaker is rated for 20A on 120V, and there’s a 15A surge protector with two monitors (total 145W) plugged into it. My PSU is 850W and has an 80+ Platinum rating, plus a 12W audio interface. There’s also a ceiling fan light, though I don’t know its wattage.
I suspect the issue might be with the outlets themselves, especially since they’re duplex and have a surge protector. I tested different cables and ports, confirmed the GPU was seated correctly, and everything seemed normal until I tried launching Guilty Gear in the kitchen. The GPU didn’t show anything, and the monitor had weird pixels. I’m still unsure if it’s my GPU, PSU, monitor, or breaker that’s faulty.
I’m planning to check the breaker for the AFCI outlets and see if that helps. I’ll update later with more details. Overall, hardware seems stable per HWInfo64, but I’m still trying to figure out what’s causing the problem.
