Identifying performance issues related to the processor.
You might locate a refurbished i7 7700 if you're flexible. However, your motherboard restricts overclocking, making it less ideal to upgrade the CPU in that setup. Consider using an older Ryzen 3 3300x instead, paired with a compatible motherboard and RAM.
I also suggest avoiding an i7 6700 or 7700 since the prices aren't favorable, and with upcoming consoles using 8c/16t CPUs, you'll likely remain locked into that platform soon. A 3300x + b450 board (or b550 if they come out soon) would be a smarter option because it offers more upgrade potential for the future.
Most people suggested a 3300x and b450 board. Ideally, an MSI Tomahawk Max works well since it supports Ryzen 4000. Check back before purchasing as B550 boards are coming out soon, replacing the b450. Also note AMD is refreshing its Ryzen 3000 lineup in September. If you buy around then ask again for the best choices.
The B450 model is clearly not within my budget, though I hope prices come down eventually. I won’t be able to upgrade again afterward. I’m looking for a device that works well with my RX580 and will stay the same for good. Also, let me know if you need that info about the Antec X1-T case.
