Identifying issues with high-pitched sounds in multiple RAM slots.
Hello everyone. I just wrapped up my initial desktop setup (with some clear disappointment over the component choices), but what bothers me most is the loud high-frequency sound when I exceed two gigabytes of RAM. Since I can't afford extra parts, I mostly handled troubleshooting on my own—rechecking cables, testing components, briefly disconnecting parts—to pinpoint that the RAM slot was the issue. I experimented with different setups: one configuration with A2 and B2, another with A1 and B1, then tried mixing all four sticks in various orders. The noise disappeared when I swapped configurations or used single sticks. Running all four at once still caused the problem, regardless of settings like XMP or DDR boosters. Even when idle, the hum remains until I interact with the system. It disappears completely after a short power-off and restarts, but takes over an hour to boot normally. The RAM LED lights up when it thinks the chip is being loaded, suggesting a possible relearning issue. This behavior doesn’t change when using BIOS or different operating systems. I’ve checked forums, but most reports point to coil whine—though this one feels more like a sharp, high-pitched buzz. I also tried contacting support, but they all recommended returning the unit for warranty, which isn’t ideal given the shipping distance and cost. I’m hoping someone can share similar experiences or suggest a quick fix. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Updated... I brought the PC to a few local PC shops and repair centers. Unfortunately, in my area I visited five major shops. None had a spare motherboard for testing—either to check if the motherboard was faulty or to test four DDR5 RAM sticks to see if the issue lay with the RAM. They only swapped the RAM and slots and came back with the same result. The next step they planned is using a different power supply, but that didn’t resolve the problem. All the places I visited said they had never encountered this issue before. I’m hoping someone has experience with this problem.
For those facing the same problem later, I returned the board for a replacement. The outcome was it was fixed. I’m not certain what exactly was repaired, but there’s no more loud high-pitched sound. Likely a hardware issue.
By the way, I brought the motherboard back and set everything up again. During the multicore test, I restarted once and rebooted once after. After that, I tried without undervolting – the results were different: max temp went from 70°C to 70°C, power dropped from 140W to 153W, and the score fell significantly (24xxx). Now I’m unsure why this is happening, but I’ll keep testing. For now, I’m relieved it works without that annoying noise.
