I just received my shiny new 3950x and an ASUS Prime X570 Pro motherboard. When I put the CPU under heavy load, it throttles down to 3GHz (sometimes 2) and core voltages drop to 0.95. Before you ask, this isn’t unusual—my system stays under 60°C, I’ve used an 8-pin connector, updated chipset drivers and BIOS, disabled and re-enabled precision boost, switched coolers, and even reinstalled Windows on two different drives. It’s been a weekend wait for AMD or ASUS support, which is getting longer by the day. Anyone have suggestions for a lasting fix besides manually adjusting core voltage? My current setup is: CPU: 3950x, GPU: 980Ti, PSU: Corsair TX 750M, RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB, 2440MHZ, and I’m considering a cooler change. Thanks to everyone who helped—I’d really appreciate any permanent solution ideas.
Have you considered changing to high-performance settings in Windows Power Settings? Some games or applications aren't built well, causing CPU speeds to drop when under stress at normal temperatures—something that shouldn't occur.
Core Performance Boost is activated and PBO is enabled. I’ll apply BIOS defaults, adjust those settings, and observe the behavior after reboot. If needed, consider updating the BIOS to ensure compatibility with the latest patches. ABBA 1.0.0.4B is the most recent and recommended version. Avoid manually adjusting the core voltage—let the CPU handle it, particularly at factory clocks. It may seem risky with such high voltage, but AMD has proven they’re handling it well. If you decide to tweak the voltage, also be prepared to overclock; this could slightly impact single-thread performance while boosting multi-core efficiency.
The processor is labeled on the connector's side, and it uses a standard cable in my semi-modified PSU, confirming it's the correct model.
