Hey there, I’m thinking about boosting my CPU. The Intel Core i5 6600K is already running at 4.5GHz and I’ve noticed it’s performing at its peak. When I disable other programs, especially Discord, my game FPS jumps noticeably. I’m unsure which upgrade to choose between the i5 9600K or Ryzen 5 3600, but I’d prefer staying under $300. My current setup includes a GTX 1080 FE with an aftermarket cooler, the i5 6600K at 4.5GHz, and 16GB of DDR4 2400. Thanks in advance!

You won’t stay under $300 if you go for a 9600k, since you’d also need a new motherboard. The best choice to keep costs low is an i7 7700k.

Other factors matter too, like the chipset, not just the socket type
