Start by noting that my old HP Pavilion is in pretty bad shape, but I need it for school. Right now I’ve got three RAM sticks installed, totaling 1.5GB (three 512MB units). When I try to add another 512MB, it works fine, but when I try to install the extra one, it won’t turn on at all. All the RAM slots and RAMs are functioning properly after testing. Powering up with the four 512MB sticks produces three beeps and a red light. Please help me out.

Just checking if the HP Pavilion is HP, but it seems similar—only the details are lacking. I’m pretty sure the CPU is an Intel Core 2 VPro.

It's possible the final RAM module might have failed, as seen in older systems

I haven't tried changing the order of the 3 rams, and it functions properly.

Sure, I can test with 1 gig or 2 gig sticks.

I don’t have much and honestly, I don’t want to invest more money since the machine is quite old. Still, I’d like to get the most out of it.

You mentioned just one slot isn't working, or maybe the stick isn't functioning. Also, DDR2 RAM is affordable these days.
