Identify issues with the new CPU while testing GPU switching on a different PCIe slot.
My setup: GPU RTX 3060 Ti, CPU Ryzen 7 5800x3d (new), Motherboard B450-A Pro Max, RAM Corsair Vengeance 16 GB dual, PSU Corsair TX850M.
Problem: PC functions normally with old CPU, but when new CPU is installed it boots fine. However, no display appears or the monitor lights up on the motherboard. When switching GPU to another PCIe slot it works with display.
What I tried: Updated BIOS, cleared CMOS and reinserted, used an older BIOS version that supports the new CPU.
Questions: What should I do? Should I keep the GPU in the second PCIe slot as it is? Appreciate your help.
I sent back the CPU assuming it was faulty, yet the firm insisted everything was fine and shipped it back to me.
Upgrade to the newest motherboard firmware. This isn't the initial version that accommodates the 5000 series CPU.
The BIOS remains compatible with the latest available release.
Have you explored a PCIE 3.0 graphics card? I recall some users facing problems with particular motherboards, particularly the 400 series when using PCIE 4.0 cards alongside a 5th gen Ryzen processor. Following the manual can really clarify certain aspects. Your 3060 is now operating at PCIE 2.0 x4 through the chipset, rather than directly from the CPU, creating a significant performance limitation. This explains why the B-series from AMD is often ineffective, and I frequently suggest X-series chipsets for those on the AMD platform. This is especially true for budget or mid-range options—such as Prime, Gaming series, Pro-A, UD series, and Pro 4 series—which typically cost no more than about $50 less.
Adjust the settings in the BIOS to force PCIe 3 mode, even if it doesn't seem right.
