Hello everyone. The laptop's BIOS became corrupted during an update, so we handed it over to support for repair. They say they replaced the motherboard with a new one, but I’m very skeptical since the CPU is soldered in place. A few months passed, and the machine just froze. When idle, the screen went dark completely—no backlight, no HDD indicator lights, and the fans spun faster. Pressing the power button had no effect; holding it didn’t turn it on. Once it did power up, the power light and fans activated, but the backlight remained off. Pressing the power again did nothing, requiring a hold to shut it down. After many failed attempts to access BIOS, we let it cool and eventually it booted normally into Windows. Then I restarted it, but the problem continued. It’s been a couple of weeks now. Sometimes it would start up and I could run stress tests, but nothing happened. Windows updates would trigger shutdowns, and the laptop would die again after the update. After cooling down for a few hours, it might work once more. We tried removing the motherboard battery, the main one, and even the SSD. The RAM was fine, and I tested the HDMI port. It seems the BIOS chip is likely damaged. I’m not sure what to do next.
It seems the laptop functioned again after returning from support. If the BIOS was damaged during an update and the motherboard was replaced, the issue isn't with the BIOS anymore. Since the BIOS chip is separate from the motherboard, the problem likely stems from an overheating concern. Have you checked the temperatures?
