I’m selecting components for a cost-effective gaming setup and was thinking about using a dual-core i3 processor. I understand this might seem unusual, but I mainly intend to play some lighter titles like Minecraft, League of Legends, and CS:GO. I was considering more visually demanding games, but with just two cores my options are quite restricted. I’m also looking into Crysis 3, Bioshock Infinite, and a few Battlefield titles. I’m still unsure about these choices. However, if I decide to go with a dual-core CPU, would I be able to run those games? It seems you're considering different processor options. AMD 280 and 270x are available, dual cores work fine. An I3 might be viewed as having more cores due to hyper-threading, though this could vary.

I'll do my best to secure a quad-core processor.

The i3 needs to run long enough for you to upgrade to an i5. (Running lighter games) then keep saving, saving, saving... eventually it hits i5 performance,.. it’s a simple switchover... and any title fits well with that strong CPU plus your GPU won’t be restricted by CPU-heavy titles. It’s a much better option than getting an AMD quadcore hoping for the same results.

The i3 is regarded as a quad-core processor because of its hyperthreading, avoiding the problems you might face with the G3258. Its performance is solid both in real time and clock speed, making it quite capable even without overclocking. You'll get good results from it.

You're working with a powerful setup! That Intel Xeon processor should handle demanding builds well.

An I3 may face issues when playing most games, indicating a possible bug or lack of optimization.

For this project I’d prefer it in an ITX size too. AMD chips consume a lot of power, so I’d also need to replace the power supply. I prioritize efficiency rather than just a minor speed increase.

An i3 is usually sufficient for gaming. It may face challenges in titles such as Battlefield 4, the latest Total War games, and similar experiences.

The modern i3 works fine. Games are trending toward better CPU performance using Vulkan and DX12. For a GPU, go for an R9 285 or a GeForce 960 – pick the one that fits your budget.
