Icons in NIA, like volume, disappear when the system starts.
It doesn't occur every time, but when it does a brief reset then it works again. Still bothersome. The app displays volume as (Icon and Notifications) when I switch to the Notification Area Icons. MSI Afterburner also caused this issue but opening the program and reducing it resolved it. What surprised was that RTSS (a component of MSI Afterburner) remained active all the time and appeared in the NIA.
