i9 9900k problems?
I recently added a 9900k to my setup from an i7 8700, but the Task Manager lists it as a 6-core, 12-thread processor. The Cinebench score I’m seeing is 8600, which is lower than expected—non-OC models usually hit around 12,000. My FPS in games matches what I previously recorded, yet I’ve noticed other users with similar builds report significantly higher numbers. I’m worried because I invested a lot on this CPU and cooler, expecting better performance.
BIOS is current? The IDs match a 9900K? All cores and threads are active?
CPU-Z displays identical information for six cores and twelve threads. Performance speed varies considerably, sometimes dropping as low as 800 MHz. Perhaps an BIOS update would help? I haven’t changed it since installation. The BIOS also lists eight cores and sixteen threads.
For a Z370 model, the BIOS might require an update. A Z390 does not need such an update.
When you switch CPUs, launch msconfig, go to the Boot section, tap the Advanced options... button, remove the "Number of processors" field, and restart. This enables Windows to detect all your cores and threads.
Have you cleared the compartment and restarted it? When it’s set to 12, you won’t be able to choose 16. This compartment must never be toggled. It appears to update itself automatically during processor swaps. Numerous users have encountered the same problem.
