In terms of gaming speed, AMD is currently struggling. A better alternative might be the 10600k, which Gamers Nexus managed to run as smoothly, and even outperform a 9900k in many cases. Check out their video for more details.

A 3900XT would perform well in games. Playing at higher resolutions often makes the CPU less critical for many titles.
