Hello, I'm having a bit of trouble deciding which processor to choose. The 10900F offers two more cores, while the I9 11900F has quicker single-core performance. Since the I9 10900F is more affordable, should I opt for its 10 cores or the faster single-core options? Is it better to prioritize having many cores or speed in one core for gaming?

Games won’t rely on just about 10 or even 8 processing units.

The 11th generation offers improved performance compared to the 10th generation.

The 11900 feels like a slight step down from the 10900, mainly because it drops two cores and doesn’t offer a significant improvement. It does show a bit better performance with a single core, but it’s not something you’d really notice. Either way, both processors are more than enough for gaming right now—you probably won’t need more than 14 threads, which is the highest number games can use on the new console.

Eh. The main variation in performance beyond C/T counts is negligible.

I'm working on a configuration that needs to remain stable over time, so I want to avoid frequent changes. For my budget, having two additional cores is preferable to a single-core speed.

By the time you actually need 10 cores for gaming, that chip will be outdated. No point in doing so.

It doesn't matter anymore, not until the PS5 and Xbox Series X become the main options. Consoles always require the lowest hardware each generation, and their CPUs keep up or surpass them. If you truly seek a platform with more cores in the future, consider Ryzen. Remember, all existing systems are outdated paths. No new full CPUs are expected. If you must choose between two similar models at the same price, go for the 10900f. It offers the same gaming performance and an extra core.

This tells us the frequencies for each model. The 11900F operates at 3200Hz, while the 10900F runs at 2966Hz. That means the 10900F uses a lower frequency range compared to the 11900F.

They both support increased performance via XMP profiles, but at stock price the 11900f would be more effective.
