i7700k temps too high?
Hi, your i7 [email protected] is running under H100i v2 cooling, but temperatures are reaching around 87°C during gaming while staying around 75°C on average. The Corsair Link isn’t working, so you’re using manual fan control at full speed. I understand these CPUs can get hot, but could the cooler not be performing adequately? Or are these spikes typical? I’m worried about damaging the CPU.
The CPU won't overheat at those temperatures, but I anticipate the H100i will perform significantly better than that when just running games. My 7700k paired with a budget hyper 212 EVO air cooler does better in games, achieving core temperatures of around 55-65°C at 4.6ghz and 1.2v vcore. What is the vcore voltage set to? Are you certain the cooler was installed correctly?
I purchased it using a pre-overclocked profile from Scan.co.uk. I might consider switching to a different thermal compound to test its performance at various temperatures. I'll also need to verify the voltage when connected to the PC later. It would be possible to bring it back to a stock level of 4.5Ghz if needed.
The temperatures won't damage the CPU, but the H100i should perform much better than that when just playing games. My 7700k with a budget hyper 212 EVO air cooler does better in games, achieving around 55-65°C core temps at 4.6ghz and 1.2v vcore during a 50-70% load. What are your Vcore settings? Are you certain the cooler is installed correctly? My pump was set to Quiet mode, but it's now on Performance and has helped lower the temperatures. I tried Prime 95 and it stayed steady at 77°C for some time before reaching 98°C, so I might stop using the OC profile temporarily to explore other fixes.
I always emphasize... Deliding the 7700k is worth the chance....
Running at 5.1 GHZ, 1.375V, with a maximum temperature of 69 °C in Prime95 after about 2 Hours using the NZXT X52 Liquid cooling kit.

I wouldn't be too comfortable doing that honestly.
I tested Prime95 and 100% load it reached 100°C, but with Aida64 at 100% load it was 77-84°C. I'm not sure what's going on.
