Hey everyone, I'm setting up a new PC and most components are in. With the i7 8700k running at 3.7ghz, I'm wondering how much I can safely boost it using the H100iV2 cooler. I'm not sure which MOBO to choose, but I'm thinking the ASUS Prime Z370-A.

It's a basic mobile with the H100i v2 model, featuring a standard 240mm air cooler. You can reach around 4.7ghz with a core voltage between 1.3 and 1.35v safely. However, if you have more demanding plans, consider removing the lid and using a higher-quality thermal paste such as kryonaut. This setup will allow you to hit 5.0-5.1 for everyday use.

Temps and voltage will determine what you can achieve here. For example, I managed to boost my 8600k on an Asus Z370-E motherboard to 5ghz with a stable 1.34v at 1.34v. Running Prime95 26.6 for three hours kept temperatures around 70 degrees. I’m using a H100i V2 without delid. I’m aiming for 5.1 and likely staying under 1.4v, or maybe reaching 5.2 at about 1.41v. If I hit 5.2, I’d probably need to swap the CPU. Overall, I’m satisfied with the 5ghz performance and the temperatures I’ve seen. Your results depend on your setup and goals—whether you’re chasing high speeds or a balanced experience matters most. If you can’t reach at least 5ghz at 1.4v, consider replacing the CPU.
