i7 7700k paired with 3400MHZ RAM – challenges and considerations

Hello everyone, I own an i7 7700K and a Patriot Viper 4 with 4x4GB RAM at 3400MHz (PV416G340C6K). My system performed well for over two years with 2133Mhz RAM and 4.2ghz CPU speed. I experienced some frame rate drops in games, so I tried boosting the RAM to 3400Mhz using XMP. After that, CPU temperatures rose from 80°C to 100°C under full load. I wanted to revert everything to normal settings but after resetting BIOS and setting the CPU to 4.2ghz and RAM to 2133Mhz, my PC still fails to boot. I attached a screenshot showing the loading screen stuck. Clearing CMOS didn’t help either. Currently, the only way it boots is when I run the overclocked RAM at 3400Mhz, which causes high CPU temps. I suspect the issue might be related to Windows 10. In the future, I plan to upgrade to a liquid cooler but need to adjust the RAM speed carefully to protect my CPU. Here are my PC details: CPU: i7 7700K, Liquid Cooler: Corsair H60, GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB G1, RAM: Patriot Viper 4 2x4GB at 3400MHz, Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z270I, GAMING.

Consider clearing the CMOS by unplugging the device and taking out the coin cell battery for about 5 to 10 minutes, then check the results.

I used it and the RAM was set to its default rate (2133), yet the computer kept showing that same display.

Turn off Fast Boot in BIOS or keep it at default. This issue stems from enabling Fast Boot again two years ago.
