Generally, setting vcore to 1.25v achieves the desired performance. Adjusting the load line calibration helps avoid voltage drops when using a CPU load, which can lead to instability. Auto mode is usually acceptable. For my 6600k at 4.7GHz with 1.3v, raising the calibration improved stability (though this could depend on higher voltage settings). If unsure, stick with auto and aim for 4.8GHz. If instability persists, boost voltage or increase load line calibration.

Your CPU will maintain 1.25V continuously, including during idle, as long as the voltage regulator supports it.

Voltage doesn’t always match temperature changes directly. For instance, even at 1.25V during idle, the actual temperature might still be lower than when under load.

Considering this, it might make sense to follow Asu's MCE and let the voltage adjust automatically. If you run at 1.25V OC, your temperatures should stay lower during idle.

To achieve low temperatures during idle, activate the core C states in the BIOS. Once a core reaches the C7 state, its voltage drops to zero. That’s impressive. During idle, you can enjoy a swift CPU operating at high voltage while maintaining minimal power use and stable temperatures. Intel’s C states are exceptional. Those worried about voltage or heat should definitely enable them. The screenshot illustrates that most cores remain in the low-power C7 state over 99% of their time. No concerns about power draw or idle temps, even with 10 cores running at 5000 MHz.

Yes, it’s typically found under the Intel power management settings in the BIOS. It’s usually configured to auto, meaning it should be active by default.

Auto has various meanings depending on the motherboard. To guarantee C states are activated, select enabled rather than auto.
